Some services are unnecessary and present performance and security issues. Turn these off if not being used:
NFS: portmap, rpc.mountd, rpc.nfsd
Samba: nmbd, smbd
DNS: named (not needed if only resolving)
Others: lpd, telnet, rlogin, rexec, finger, chargen, echo, comsat, identd, ftp
Remove from /etc/inetd.conf and/or /etc/rc.d/* files
